Foi anunciado aqui que Ken Hirai estava concorrendo ao premio de melhor clipe na categoria "Best Male Video", com o clipe "fake star". Infelizmente o Ken Hirai não levou o prêmio. O vencedor foi o cantor americano Ne-Yo com o clipe "Because of You". Entretando, muitos artistas japoneses foram vencedores dos prêmio, inclusive artistas muito conhecidos mundialmente como Utada Hikaru, Namie Amuro e Koda Kumi.
O VMAJ 08 teve performances de artistas como: Ayaka, EXILE, FERGIE, Mariah Carey, Nelly e Simple Plan.
